A Limit-Fed, High-Energy Diet Fed During the Growing Phase Does Not Negatively Affect Subsequent Feedlot Growth Performance or Carcass Merit Compared to Feeding a Traditional Roughage-Based Diet Ad Libitum During the Growing Phase

چکیده
Objective: The objective of this experiment was to compare the subsequent growth performance and carcass impacts a high-energy diet limit-fed at 2.2% body weight (BW) or traditional roughage-based fed ad libitum during growing phase.

Energy uptake and utilization by limit- and ad libitum-fed growing horses.
Eighteen weanling horses were assigned to two treatments: limited or ad libitum feed intake. Growth and feed utilization were evaluated over a 78-wk period. Ad libitum-fed horses gained 24% more (P less than .05) weight than limit-fed horses. Total BW was distributed into 57% fore and 43% hind weight and did not differ between groups regardless of dietary treatment or age. Net gain and ADG in w...
متن کاملEffects of winter growing programs on subsequent feedlot performance, carcass characteristics, body composition, and energy requirements of beef steers.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of winter growing program on subsequent finishing performance, carcass merit, and body composition of beef steers. Four steers were slaughtered to determine initial body composition. Remaining steers (n = 256) were blocked by BW and randomly allotted to 1 of 4 treatment groups: 1) ad libitum fed a high-concentrate diet (CF), 2) grazed on ...
متن کاملGlutamine force-feeding effect on plasma amino-acid concentrations in growing rats fed a cafeteria diet.
The effect of a glutamine force-feeding on plasma amino-acid levels in rats fed either a reference diet or a cafeteria diet was studied during weaning. The increases in plasma amino-acid levels shown by rats eating the cafeteria diet were related to the force-feeding and/or the age studied. The glutamine solution decreased the levels of proline, ornithine and tyrosine in the plasma of rats eati...
متن کاملComparison of behaviour, performance and mortality in restricted and ad libitum-fed growing rabbits.
The objective of this study was to determine whether rabbits fed in a restricted regimen (75%) showed increased competition for feeding, drinking and use of specific areas of the cages as compared with those provided feed ad libitum. This evaluation was carried out by measuring their space utilisation in the cage, the incidence of agonistic behaviour and rates of mortality. In total, 504 rabbit...
متن کاملEffects of limit feeding corn or dried distillers grains with solubles at 2 intakes during the growing phase on the performance of feedlot cattle.
Energy density in growing diets may affect carcass quality of cattle; however, few reports have described the impact of energy source. The objectives of this research were to determine effects of source [dried distillers grains with solubles (DDGS) vs. corn] and amount (limit-fed to gain 0.9 vs. 1.4 kg of BW/d) of energy during the growing phase on feedlot performance and marbling. Angus-cross ...
